1. We DO have fire extinguishers and were about to use one but the firemen got here lightning fast and put it out for us before we were able to figure out how to use it. I totally agree with everyone who said to invest in fire extinguishers. What I would also say is learn how to use them - we didn't and it was stressful and confusing and the fire burned a minute more than it had to because of that.
2. Tons of people wrote to tell me about their own fires, and the stories were terrifying. The vast majority started for what I would have said "no reason," like mine did - mostly from small appliances catching fire when they weren't even on. So a lot of the advice was to to unplug toasters, etc., when not in use. VERY good advice!
3. So many people commented that I had photos to show you yesterday and thought I should have taken a day off :) I would have, except the post was pre-written and scheduled to go already. However, in retrospect, I wish I had saved the photos for another day and only posted about fire safety because I agree that maybe they took away from the importance of the post.
Again, thank you all for your comments, stories, and safety tips!
And for those who asked, here is the chandelier I picked - yes, already. After seeing it in the Boston store, I kind of wished I could use it someday. Now I just hope the insurance company agrees about how awesome it is, and that is is totally worth the expense :)
And on to today's rooms:
