I came across ace & tate on one of those (usually annoying) Facebook adverts. You know how it is, it’s 2.03am, you’re pointlessly scrolling through memes to tag your best friend in even though he’s laying right next to you, and you end up captivated by a new brand.
ace & tate are a European brand delivering beautiful frames that they wholeheartedly believe will become future classics and I can see why. Their Amsterdam-based design team pore over designs for weeks and months, crafting from quality materials that are strong, lightweight (oh so key) and long-lasting. Each frame is handmade in Italy for craftsmanship second to none and they have a handy free try-on service which I immediately took them up on. Often try-on services are a bit of a faff, let’s be honest, but the ace & tate service is flawlessly simple from start to finish (up to 5 frames, 5 days to trial them and it comes in wonderful packaging) and their branding is just beautiful. Nina
Inspired by Nina Simone, Nina is described as ‘smoky-voiced and soulful’, crafted from ultralight acetate with oval lenses. I tried these in the Autumn Leaves colour-way and they were my instant favorite. The slightly lighter shade really adds life to my face and I was pleasantly surprised at how flattering the lens shape is. Note: this is the pair that I eventually ended up buying!Floyd
The Floyd in On Fire proved popular in my ‘poll’ over on Instagram Stories but ultimately I felt the shade and circular lenses were too much on my face. The keyhole bridge looked oh so cute and I can’t help but think these might make their way into my eyewear wardrobe one day…Roth
My second favorite and a close runner-up for my new frames was the Roth in On the Rocks. Circular lenses linked by a statement keyhole bridge create a modern classic that I adored but it didn’t seem to sit well with everybody else. And hey, it’s you guys that’ll see me in these the most ;)Finn
My least favorite frames were the Finn, a mid-century modern frame with a more ‘hipster’ rectangular frame. I think this was down to the fact that they’re similar to my current frames and so I instantly didn’t gravitate towards these as a new pair.I remain thoroughly impressed with ace & tate’s home try-on service and ended up purchasing my frames that same evening. The process was expectedly straightforward and I just can’t bloody wait to receive my glasses next week!

My current frames have been in action since August 2016 and whilst I’m pretty happy with them, well… Milo stole them a few weeks ago, scratched the lens, chewed the arms and they could do with replacing.
