Donald Trump loves to brag about the economy, and take credit for it. And Republicans had hoped that those policies pursued by them (and Trump) would save them in the 2018 election. They had originally touted the tax cut as a great example of how the GOP is helping the middle class.
They have stopped talking about that now after seeing that most people did not like their tax plan. The public saw that plan as a huge boon for the rich and corporations, and not much help to anyone else. The truth is that the Trump/GOP economic policies have been a huge help for the people who least needed help, and not done anything for those who could use some help -- the middle class and the poor.
A recent poll shows the American public doesn't think they've been helped by Trump's economic policies. A majority (53%) say that poor families have not been helped at all, and a plurality (45%) say the middle class has only been helped a little (with 36% saying they haven't been helped at all).
Americans see the Trump policies as mainly helping the rich (57%) and Wall Street bankers (56%).
Those numbers are not going to help Republicans in the coming election. The public wants economic policies that will be fair to everyone -- not just the rich.
