‘True Blood’ Vol. 4 Soundtrack Review

With each season passing it must be hard for, Gary Calamar, the music supervisor to come up with music to go with each episode.  Not only come up with music to go with the theme of the episode but have the title of the song that is played at the end match the title of the episode.  Well he was able to do that with a bunch of the songs for last season.  With each season that passes they release the compilation of all the songs that were played and put them together for us.  Not only did this release this on iTunes but they released it on the play old CD and like we mentioned in past articles Vinyl.

Now I know some of you may be asking why would they release new material on something very old school?  The answer the quality of the sound actually is better!  Believe me I wish a lot of new stuff came on Vinyl (and it is slowly working it’s way back).  I also know that they film the show using film INSTEAD of digital because the quality looks better.  I think them releasing this on Vinyl is another way of saying they are all about the quality of the show and music behind it.

Now I’m sure some of you are saying well I heard the songs at the end of the episode and one or two are okay why would I buy a whole album.  I have to say I like this whole soundtrack.  I can put this in on a long drive and I don’t need to change to a different track or feel the need to switch to the radio.

The album starts off with “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” with Eric Burdon & Jenny Lewis.  Now this song may sound familiar and well that’s because a group called Animals did a cover in 1965 which was widely popular.  I like how these two did the song as they keep the key tempo but where able to make it sound darker.  The two voices also blend together very well.

I have to say the next song that you have to get if you don’t get the whole album is called “What Makes a Good Man?” by The Heavy.  This song has a nice tempo right off the bat that makes you tap your feet.  Also when they have the background voices for the chorus it sounds GREAT!  And you can’t help but sing as loud as you can with them.  Another song choice that was well done.

I have to say I’m also impressed by how many bands that are in my iPod are on here.  We have The Flaming Lips with “Your Face Can Tell the Future”, The Naked and Famous with “The Sun”.  Both are two more songs you need to get…or it’s another reason why you need to get this soundtrack.

The last song I will talk about is “Undertow” by Warpaint.  This is a slower song but this is really how alternative rock is sounding now days.  This kind of reminds me of a Tegan and Sara song.  Whenever I hear this song I just like to sit there and close my eyes and listen.  There is something about this song that captures any emotion you have at that moment.

I have to give this soundtrack a 5/5!  I’m giving it such a high rating because every song flows together so nicely and it captures the emotion that is going on in the song right now.  So make sure you head over to iTunes or your local music store to pick up your copy right now.  I also have a feeling if you are able to get it on Vinyl it will sound even better.
