Lauren reveals that when she’s looking for a good sweaty workout she opts for Hatha or Ashtanga yoga, but when she’s looking for stretching and a lighter workout she goes for Yin yoga. In an average week, Bowles works out at least five times and on top of that does anywhere from one to five yoga classes! She loves exercise classes and will try just about any one and says that even though exercise makes her schedule a bit more hectic, she definitely sleeps better when she gets those workouts in.
Although all that exercise certainly helps her look great, Bowles focuses on the feeling of confidence that comes along with being strong. She doesn’t let the pressures that Hollywood can place on a woman get to her and if she gets or loses a job because of how she looks, so be it. Bowles admit that her diet was a little more challenging for her because her and her husband are food lovers saying:
My husband and I are total foodies. We got married in Italy, and I must have eaten the equivalent of an entire pig when I was there! (Along with barrels of wine and wheels of cheese). Add to it I’m an avid baker. But my diet has gone through a real evolution. Nutrition has become kind of a habit of mine, and I read about it incessantly. Books like The China Study and Clean really got me to look at food beyond the way it tastes and really think about what it’s doing for my body. There seems to be no doubt that the best diet for both our bodies and the planet is a whole-foods plant-based one, which is what I subscribe to at home. But if I’m at a fantastic restaurant and I know where the meat comes from…all bets are off. Plus, I’m obsessed with Baby Cakes, a NYC vegan bakery that just found its way to LA. I met the owner Erin McKenna and kinda felt like I was meeting Angelina Jolie.
Taking the whole body approach is definitely the way to go and Bowles reveals that one of her proudest moments was when her three year old daughter looked in the mirror and said she was beautiful. When asked what advice she would give about being healthy and fit, Bowles says:
First and foremost, love your body the way it is. You can’t beat something into submission and expect it to look good. If you can come from a place of acceptance and care, nothing can stop you.
