The pencil skirt remains an elegant classic but you can still stand out from the crowd in this old-school favourite.
An incredibly versatile piece to have in your wardrobe; you can team a pencil skirt with a blouse or button up shirt for a more corporate vibe, a t-shirt for a relaxed vibe and layer it up with a blazer, trench coat or sweater when the brisk autumn air hits.
This week I thought I'd channel my inner Joan from Mad Men and show you how to wear a pencil skirt three ways.
I've chosen this gorgeous bright floral Modern Pencil Skirt (gifted) from my favourite UK brand, Boden as my feature item. It comes in a variety of prints, sizes (6-22) and lengths-petite (which I'm wearing, although I could have gone the regular if I wanted it to fall just under my knee), regular and long.
Made from a textured cotton ottoman, with a touch of stretch, this skirt is fitted but still comfortable for wearing at my desk all day.
For your desk:This is probably my favourite look and I predict it is the way I'll wear this skirt the most (after all, I may have one or two striped t-shirts to choose from!). I'm a big fan of a bit of print clash and the key for a good clash is to use complimentary colours.
I don't wear button up shirts too often because in order to fit my bust, they're often too loose around my middle to tuck in, but I thought I'd give it a go to show you a different way to wear the standard button up/pencil skirt look. I've added this cute Alannah Hill sparkly necklace over the top, but any shorter necklace would also work.
Finally, if you pick a pencil skirt in a fun or bright print or pattern, you'll also be able to easily transition it to weekend wear by adding a casual tee, sunnies and a pair of derbys, wedges or even sneakers.
