Travelling Hacks to Travel Light with a Baby

By Chaayen

Now that our little one is a little older, his wake time stretches longer too. This pretty means we can go out a lot more. Hence, you see our park visits. Hehe. To go out "long, we do pack quite a bit of things. So I thought I will share some tips so that you can pack light like us and last long.

  1. We feed quite a lot outside. I know some parents find it troublesome but it is actually not as tough as it looks. Usually, we will prepare 2 bottles, 1 for his milk (prepared ahead) and another for plain water. On top of that, I will bring a packet of biscuits to calm him down.

  2. Now here's the shocking thing, I actually fed him yoghurt/ packet purees outside too. Yes, we bought a spoon out. In fact, sometimes I even bring his teether. I find the Marcus & Marcus Cutlery Pouch ($15.90) very useful for storing these items. The pouch keep them clean before use and contains the mess after use. :D

  3. Another feeding tool you might like to consider - collapsible containers. These containers help to save quite a bit of space when they are not in use. They can also be used as transporters for shorter cutlery, pacifiers or even teethers. Marcus & Marcus has a few different variations. We are using the collapsible snack containers, Lucas ($19.90).

  4. Diapers is a must. I bring 2 because he doesn't really poop more than 2 times a day now and every 4 hours, the diapers would be filled with pee. I know some Mums really put the diapers to the test. But not me cos a leaking diaper creates so much more work for me. I don't bring a changing mat out, I use a disposable protector sheet cos it is light :P

  5. Remember your wet wipes! We got the smaller packets which is quite handy to bring out. When I am feeling particularly germophobic, I will bring a tiny bottle of sanitising water along. Usually I would wipe baby's hands after he touches everything. The wet wipes also acts as a hanky to wipe his sweat/ drool etc.

I would safely summarise that I try to go for versatile items that can double up as other items and pick lighter products. Believe it or not, all this can snuggly fit in slightly XL sized fanny pack! New mums, do be brave and venture out, I was once a hermit but I can tell you motherhood is so much more fun when you are out!
