Travel Guide: Terracotta Warriors

By Wanderingjoshua

One of the most popular attractions in China is the Terracotta Army. These statues have withstood the test of time and provide a glimpse to the country's storied past.

I was in Xi'An for a couple of days during a visit to China, I was in the city and was planning to explore another region of the country. Before I left, I decided to visit the site of the Terracotta Warriors.

The sculptures were in various poses and even had distinct facial features. These were made to accompany Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the afterlife.

The site has three different pits of varying size and displays. The Terracotta Army is now a UNESCO-listed site and is one of the most significant discoveries of the 20th century.

I took my time exploring the archaeological sites, you can do this for half a day or so, depending on how interested you are and other attractions you want to visit.

How to get to the Terracotta Warriors
You don't have to book a tour to see the Terracotta Army, there is a public bus (line 5, #306) that goes to the site. It costs around CNY 7 and takes approximately 1 hour. The entrance fee is CNY 150. You can also book a tour with the hotel, hostel or guesthouse you booked with.
