Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe issued an order yesterday (11) temporarily prohibiting State Minister Diana Gamage who has been accused of an incident where she had obtained a passport by submitting false information to the Controller of Immigration and Emigration from going abroad.
Considering facts presented to court by a panel of lawyers of Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) through an affidavit, the magistrate informed the judicial registrar to impose a foreign travel ban and inform the immigration controller in this regard by fax.
The panel of lawyers had requested court to issue an order prohibiting the State Minister from traveling abroad as they had received information from a reliable sources that the she was preparing to go to London via Singapore last night (11) and if she does so, there could be an impact on this case.
The magistrate who said that Diana Gamage is scheduled to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department on November 17, also stated that he would be issuing a travel ban on going abroad until then and proceeded to do so. State Minister Gamage has been accused of obtaining an official passport from the Department of Emigration and Immigration while being a citizen of Britain.
