Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe yesterday (15) temporarily lifted the travel ban imposed on State Minister of Tourism Diana Gamage for a period of five days.
The Magistrate made this order subsequent to a request made by the President’s Counsel Sarath Jayamanne.
The Magistrate ordered to temporary lift her travel ban on two sureties of Rs.200,000 each.
The case was filed putting into question State Minister Gamage’s identification including her passport, birth certificate and the National Identity Card.
Attorney Gunarathne Wanninayake appearing on behalf of the aggrieved party informed the Magistrate that there is a question as to why the Attorney General is silent on this matter.
President’s Counsel Sarath Jayamanne appearing for the State Minister Diana Gamage stated that the investigations have not named his client as a suspect so far.
The Magistrate observed that according to the B-reports filed by the Criminal Investigations Department thus far, there are sufficient facts to name Diana Gamage as a suspect in this case. However the said decision should be taken by the Attorney General and the Criminal Investigation Department”, the Magistrate further stated.
The Magistrate ordered the OIC of the Criminal Investigations Department to submit a detailed report pertaining to the investigations on the next calling date. The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for January 5.
