The city of Srinagar is located in the northernmost state of India i.e. Jammu Kashmir. The state is well known for its beauty and most of the beauty that the state is blessed with is located in the city of Srinagar. The city is also known as the summer capital of the state. Positioned on the banks of the Dal Lake this picturesque garden is the second largest mughal garden in Kashmir.Shalimar Bagh- this garden is said to be built where the cottage for king Pravarsena II was constructed so that he could get his rest when he used to go to visit Sukarma Swami, a local priest. The grandeur that this garden exhibits with its erupting fountains, well decorated lanes, terraces, irrigation systems etc is something to be marveled upon. Pari mahal- this place was an observatory before being turned into a garden. The picturesque views that one can witness from this observatory turned garden is an amazing one. Dal lake- this is an iconic figure of Srinagar. As soon as Srinagar is mentioned the name Dal Lake automatically comes up. The Shikara rides on this serene lake are something to be enjoyed and savored by all visiting the place. The morning market that comes alive on this lake too is a great crowd puller and needs to be visited at least once when in Srinagar. Sonamarg- this place towers at an elevation of 3000 meters above sea level and is great place to visit in Srinagar. The name Sonamarg literally translates into “meadow of gold” and is a must visit when in Srinagar. The backdrop of snowcapped mountains against an azure sky is something to be marveled upon.
