Top Tips For Mini Split System Air Conditioner Installation

By Kravelv

For many consumers and contractors, ductless mini split system air conditioners have become more than an alternative cooling and heating solution. If you want to go for a split system air conditioner installation, then you must hire experienced professionals who can measure the area where the a/c. is to be installed, and who can also take care of the repairing and maintenance in the future. These are not very easy to install when compared to the window units, as you can easily reinstall the window units, if you want to relocate.

What are the features to remember during a split system air conditioner installation?

  • Suction and Liquid Lines

It is important to ensure that both suction lines, as well as liquid lines, are insulated. The expansion units are placed in the outdoor units in case of mini splits. This may lead to the sweating of the expanded gas in the liquid line when the cooling mode is used.  To control the amount of suction gas that returns to the compressor, insulation must be done.

  • Cleaning of filters

Most of the mini split air conditioners have triple filtration feature, which also includes electrostatic and deodorizing filter. It is important to replace filters every eight weeks. Permanent filters of the unit should be washed regularly. These acts of maintenance will help in keeping the conditioned air free of contaminants and odors, and will also ensure that the air flows correctly while the unit is in operation.

  • Location of unit

The mini splits must be installed at least six feet above the floor. Air comes in at the front and top of the air conditioner and is then supplied at the bottom of the air conditioner via the discharge vane. If this tip is not followed, the unit may not work reliably or correctly. Any object must not be put in front of the unit. It is because the unit is designed in such a way that the air circulates to and from the units. There should be a minimum distance from the unit, where you will keep your furniture. So it is highly recommended for split system air conditioner installation that you consult only with reliable experts who can measure the area and install the units.  Otherwise, the device may not be able to accurately sense the temperature of the returned air.

  • Unit Requirements

For the mini split air conditioner, the minimum ambient is sixty-seven degrees Fahrenheit. Problems can occur in the compressor if the unit is operated below the ambient. Low ambient control must be used in case there is the possibility of operation below the ambient. The crankcase heater is recommended. It will aid in providing operation in low ambient.

  • Voltage

For a reversing signal of the valve in case of the outdoor unit, thermostat wires must not be used. The same applies while connecting the indoor condenser or compressor fan. It is highly recommended to use multi-connecter wire of 14AWG.

  • Control Wiring:

While wiring a split air conditioner, polarity becomes very important. These units are built and designed for the world market; hence, all voltage is sensitive to polarity. Thus, wiring L1 terminal to N1 terminal and vice versa can lead to the operation of the indoor unit.

  • Supply of power:

The indoor unit of the split air conditioner will obtain its power from the outdoor unit. Hence, wiring must be done in such a way that the outdoor unit directly supplies power to the indoor unit without utilizing a disconnect switch or a junction box.

Last, but not the least, these devices are designed in order to satisfy a certain amount of heat load, and they are extremely useful for the removal of humidity. Click here for getting more ideas or tips about Split System Air Conditioner Installation.
