Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Mythological Creatures

By Theliteraturelion @LiteratureLion
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where you post the 'top ten' for each week.
This week, the top ten is: top ten favorite characters out of ___ genre. I always like to do unique ones for these, so this week I decided to focus on mythology characters in young adult literature because they don't get enough attention!
  1. Ashline Wilde from Wildefire. I have to admit, she's the first Polynesian goddess I've ever read about, and she is pretty awesome. I love her ability to be strong and throw out some garage-language, but she's pretty kick-butt!
  2. Greer Morganthal from Sweet Venom. Strong, ambitious, and a monster-hunter. What more could you want in a role model? I really like Greer in the Sweet Venom series and she's one of my favorite female characters!
  3. Annabeth Chase from Percy Jackson. This list would not be complete without Annabeth Chase. She's like the female-star of young adult mythology. Her wit and strategy is wonderful and awesome.
  4. Pierce Oliviera from Abandon. She always makes these books so interesting for me. Also, John and her relationship is pretty unique and I like reading about her adventures with John (Hades).
  5. Helen Hamilton from Starcrossed. This is one of my favorite mythology series! I love that Helen has two sides to her: her normal, shy side and then her strong, mythological side. Regardless, I like both sides of Helen.
  6. Kate Winters from The Goddess Test. The adventures and tasks that Kate gets put through are pretty crazy, but she manages to stay herself throughout the whole journey. I can't wait to see what happens with the rest of her Kate and her destiny in the Underworld.
  7. Piper McLean from the Heroes of Olympus. Ever since we were introduced to Piper in the new series, she's always going to have a place in my heart. She has the most human-like struggles in this series, so that could be why I enjoy reading from her point of view so much.
  8. Gwen Frost from Mythos Academy. So she may not really have much to do with mythology, but I feel like this series just kind of fits. And since Gwen is simply awesome (she reminds me a bit of Ashline Wilde, with a little more understanding of the world), she had to be thrown on this list!
  9. Nikki Beckett from Everneath. Kind of an alteration of mythology, this book was awesome because of Nikki! I really liked her intentions throughout the novel and the way she handled everything.
  10. Gretchen Sharpe from Sweet Venom. So another character from this series is coming on this list. Gretchen is the girl I want to be - smart, skilled in combat, and doesn't let things get in her way. She's just simply amazing.
