Top Ten Tuesday: 2013 Bookish Goals

By Theliteraturelion @LiteratureLion
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where you post the 'top ten' for each week.
This week, the top ten is: top ten book-ish goals for 2013! I'm usually not one for making resolutions for the whole year, but I usually make short-term goals. This year that changed and I actually have a set list of goals relating to reading!
  1. Read over 150+ books. Originally I had it so I was only going to read 100 books, but then I figured I could easily do it, so I decided to amp it up to 150 or more books. I'm also doing a challenge to go along with this one so I'll have a little more motivation!
  2. Read more ebooks. Approximately 10! I have a Kindle and an iPhone so I'm able to access my Kindle books on my phone. The big issue?: I don't read them still. I just download them and go on my merry way reading my hard copy books.
  3. Start and finish new series. There's so many series out there with like nine books in the series that I haven't read yet. Surprisingly, they're almost all paranormal books so I should have no issue getting into them.
  4. Read outside of my comfort zone. I read so many vampire/witch/dystopian books, and I'm hoping to read outside of that. Over the weeks I've been reading more contemporary, which I'm starting to enjoy! I'm also going to try and dig into some more mermaid and high fantasy novels!
  5. Read the books I have. I don't have very many books, but I do have a decent amount and I never read the books I own! Out of my 60 books or so, I have most likely read 25 of them! I need to buckle down and read more of my own books before I go and read them from the library.
  6. Read ARCs before their release dates. I don't get very many ARCs from publishers, but sometimes I trade books or win them in giveaways. I never get to them right away, so by the time they're read, it's already been a month or two since their release date.
  7. Take more notes when I read. I think it will make reviewing so much easier. I'm not going to write everything down, but if I find a quote or something I want to mention, I should quickly type it into my phone so I'll have it for the review.
  8. Become familiar with more books. Last year, someone would be able to say an author or book and I'd be able to name off the books they wrote, or the rest of the books in the series and give a brief description. Over the months, I haven't gotten my book fix so I don't know many of the books coming out in 2013 so I have to catch up on that.
  9. Spread my love for books. I always talk about books, but I feel like I could do it so much more. At school I write discussion posts for our school newspaper, but not many people read them because of the lack of popularity for our newspaper. Also, people always ask what I'm reading and ask for recommendations for books, but I feel like I coudl do it a bit more.
  10. Be a happy reader. I'm always happy when I read, so I guess this is just something I should continue to do throughout the year.
