Greenville SC is already ranked as one of the best places to live in America. The downtown is full of entertainment and activity, and Greenville's job market is a strong draw to young professionals. Likewise, there are six neighborhoods and surrounding suburbs that are among the best places to raise a family.

Five Forks

Five Forks ranks as the #1 place to live in all of South Carolina. The town has a population of 17,500, and it's a growing and affluent suburb, just 11 miles east of downtown Greenville. Life in Five Forks has a relaxed suburban feel, and the town features an abundance of parks. It's very safe, and the public schools in Five Forks are excellent.

Wade Hampton

The suburb of Wade Hampton to the northeast of Greenville is relatively affordable, making it popular with young professionals and retirees alike. It's a short 5-mile drive to the center of Greenville. It has a population of 20,200 with a median age of 41. The public schools in Wade Hampton are excellent, and the neighborhoods are safe.

Taylors

The Enoree River flows through this family-friendly suburb of Greenville, and the healing waters of Chick Springs were known to the Native Americans and early European settlers alike. In 1840, plantation owner Burwell Chick established a resort here, which attracted thousands of visitors. Today, while the old resort lays in ruins, the town of Taylors is booming, as one of the best places to live in South Carolina.

Mauldin

This family-friendly suburb of Greenville has a long history; the first land grants in what is now Mauldin were issued in 1784. The town received its name in 1820 in honor of South Carolina's Lieutenant Governor. Mauldin now has a population of approximately 25,135. U.S. Route 276 forms Main Street in Mauldin, and provides easy access to Greenville, just 8 miles to the Northeast. Mauldin has a low crime rate and good schools, making this a good place to raise a family.

Simpsonville

Simpsonville along with Mauldin, is a part of the "Golden Strip". This is an area in South Carolina known for its low unemployment due to a wide range of industries including Kemet, Para-Chem, Milliken and Sealed Air. Simpsonville also has several places listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include The Burdette Building, Hopkins Farm, Cureton-Huff House, and the Simpsonville Baptist Church. Simpsonville has a lot of parks for the many families and professionals who live in Simpsonville. The public schools in Simpsonville are also very good.

Golden Grove

This family-friendly suburb of Greenville has little more than 3,000 residents. It lies on the eastern shores of the Saluda River. Golden Grove's main road is South Carolina Highway 20, making the drive north to Greenville a short 9 miles. Golden Grove is a peaceful suburb popular with both families and retirees. The schools in Golden Grove are very good.
