Top Beach Holiday Reads This Summer

By Ourbabyblog @OurBabyBlogx

One of the great pleasures of a summer beach holiday is getting the time to really get stuck into a good book, growing up my Mum would always have one or two books with her, usually they were bought at the WHSmith in the airport (hello duty free!). While many read on a regular basis, life’s other commitments can often get in the way of committing long stints of time to getting lost in a great novel, I don't remember the last time I actually read a book, sometimes its hard to switch off when you're a parent though!  However, with such a rare opportunity you want to choose the books you take on holiday carefully, so whether you are flying to the Costa Del Sol or having a much-deserved break in Blackpool with UK Breakaways here are some of the best beach reads old and new.

New Releases  There’s a slew of great books being released in the next couple of months, so have a look for the following if you want to read what everyone is talking about…
The Sunrise by Victoria Hislop  The author of The Island has a great track record for writing engaging, entertaining novels and this certain best-sellers looks to be no different. Set in the tumultuous times of 1970s Cyprus the story follows the tribulations of a couple who open a hotel in what becomes a war zone.
Summer at Shell Cottage by Lucy Diamond  Lucy Diamond is a master of the ‘beach read’ genre. In her latest novel, the writer explores death, mourning and other family complications.
The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters  The Tipping the Velvet author makes her much-anticipated return with this, a story set in 1920s London with fascinating characters, tension and intrigue.
Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee  This follow up to Lee’s To Kill a Mocking Bird is similar in it’s political and personal ambitions. Readers will look forward to re-acquainting themselves with Atticus Finch, Scout and other familiar characters.
Dream a Little Dream by Giovanni Fletcher  Chick-lit at its finest, Fletcher’s Sarah is confronted with the man of her dreams (literally).
Truth or Die by James Patterson  A man’s journalist girlfriend is shot dead in a mugging but our protagonist suspects otherwise. Classic Patterson.
Classics  These proven classics are the top of many reader’s all-time favorite books…
The Beach by Alex Garland  Everyone has to read The Beach at some point in their life; a classic tale of a young traveller’s journey going spectacularly awry.
Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy  If you’ve seen the film this year you might want to check out the classic novel from one of the country all-time greats.
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck  Weighing in at just over 100 pages, this is a great book to read on a short break or long weekend, such a classic too, I studied it at school and absolutely loved it!
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde  Not as heavy as you may suspect, Wilde’s novel is packed full of wit and wisdom.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott  This classic American novel is a captivating read which you will immediately want all your friends to read.
