Top 5 New Years Resolutions

As 2012 draws to a close, many of us are starting to review our lives, achievements and challenges of the past year and draw up plans for 2013.  The start of a New Year is a great time to set new goals and objectives – it’s the reason we make New Years Resolutions.

The prospect of a new exciting challenge is hard to resist. Whether that ‘s finally making the decision to loose weight, stop smoking or start a new job.  The New Year is a time of new beginnings.

Here are 5 of the top New Years Resolutions we’ll be making for 2013:

Spend more time with friends and family – The number one resolutions we’ll be making this year is to spend more time with our loved ones.  Most of us are so busy rushing around, trying to make ends meet, ferrying kids to clubs, shopping, cleaning, etc. etc. that before we know it several months have passed and we haven’t made the effort to see any of our loved ones or family.

Make 2013 the year that this changes.

Get a new job – You may have spent the past few years at home with the kids and feel in need of a change, or maybe you just really need the money.  Regardless, finding a job that pays a decent wage as well as providing you with a new challenge is exciting and liberating.

Some parents with young children find it easier to try to find part-time work that fits around their family, but if you feel ready to step straight back into full time work, you’ll need to start thinking about finding childcare arrangements that suit you, your children and your pocket – this is much easier said than done!  Look online for childcare professionals that may have nanny vacancies as well as checking out child-minders, local nurseries and after school clubs.  It’s a big decision and you’ll need to be 100% happy with your final choice.

Stop Smoking – Did you know, it takes smokers an average of 4 attempts to stop smoking before they finally quit, so even if you have tried and failed to quit in the past, don’t let that get you down.  There is plenty of help and support out there for you to take advantage of to help you achieve your no-smoking goals.

Get Fit – Regular exercise has been associated with more health benefits than anything else known to man.  It can reduce the risk of certain cancers, achieve and maintain weight loss and lower blood pressure, as well as have a multitude of other positive effects on your body and mind.  It doesn’t need to be the gym, just taking a half hour walk every day is a great start.

Lose weight – 60% of adults in the UK are overweight or obese, so it comes as no surprise that setting weight loss goals feature heavily on most people’s resolution lists.  The key to success is to set realistic, achievable goals, and to incorporate dieting with an exercise plan you can fit around your lifestyle.
