These are my favorite songs of 2013. I want to note that while I like these songs, it does not necessarily mean I like the artist(s) who sing the song.
1. Beneath Your Beautiful (Labrinth feat. Emile Sande)
I first heard this song on Dancing with the Stars when Derek Hough and Kellie Pickler danced to it during their freestyle dance. I think it is a great ballad.
2. Clarity (Zedd feat. Foxes)
This is another song I first heard on a show before listening to the original. I first heard this on Glee during the season finale. I actually kind of prefer the Jessica Sanchez version.
3. Counting Stars (One Republic)
I love the part about 3 minutes into the song. This song has a good beat to it.
4. Radioactive (Imagine Dragons)
Imagine Dragons probably is my favorite new artist(s) of the year. I was tempted to also select their song Demons on my list, but thought I shouldn’t pick two songs from the same artist(s). Nevertheless, both songs are amongst my favorites.
5. Holy Grail (Jay Z feat. Justin Timberlake)
While I don’t really care for Justin Timberlake (I think he is overrated as a singer) I do like this song.
6. Make You Feel My Love (Lea Michele-Glee)
The circumstances preceding this performance only added to the power of Michele’s rendition. Lea Michele sang the song during the Glee tribute episode to cast-mate Corey Monteith, also her real-life boyfriend, who died this past summer of a drug overdose. I think you can hear the hurt and pain in her voice. This performance is superb as well as haunting.
7. Slow Down (Selena Gomez)
Gomez has had a string of hits as of late. This is probably my favorite song of hers.
8. Summertime Sadness (Lana Del Ray)
This is my favorite song of the summer. Lana Del Ray created a unique song.
9. Wrecking Ball (Miley Cyrus)
As I suggested in my post of her performance at the VMAs, Miley Cyrus should focus on singing and forget the theatrics. This is a catchy song. I’m not sure if I like it because I’ve heard it on the radio a “billion” times. But nonetheless, this is my second favorite song this year. It also was nearly my top pick until I heard this next song last month.
10. Say Something ( A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera)
I first heard this song about a month ago. Alex and Sierra, contestants and eventual victors of X Factor, performed the song during the competition. I really dig this song. In fact I have had this song on replay while typing this entire post. I have included the Alex and Sierra version, since it is that one I am most affectionate towards.
Which songs would you include on your list?
