Top 10 – Movie Queens

Posted on the 03 June 2012 by Caz @LetsGoToTheMov7

This day marks the Diamond Jubilee for Queen Elizabeth II which is just an incredible occasion. I therefore decided to make a top 10 list of movie queen’s we have seen over the years!

God Save The Queen!

10. White Queen (Anne Hathaway) – Alice in Wonderland

Possibly the most annoying Queen on the list, the way she floated around the screen but that made it rather amusing at the same time.

9.Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) – Alice in Wonderland

A totally massive head and the catchphrase “off with his head” will leave you still laughing afterwards.

8. Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) – Enchanted

Such an incredible evil performance straight from a Disney cartoon film, totally brought to live by the incredible Sarandon.

7. Arwen (Liv Tyler) – Lord of the Rings

The elf who would give up her immortality to become Aragon’s Queen after the ring is destroyed.

6. Queen Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter) – The King’s Speech

Behind every great man is a great woman and I think that is shown in this performance as King George’s wife in this moving film.

5. Anne Boleyn (Natalie Portman) – The Other Boleyn Girl

The women who would do anything to become Queen, including seducing the already married King.

4. Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) – Lord of the Rings

Queen of the Elves had to be so high on the list, we all know the importance for her role in Lord of the Rings.

3. Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) – Snow White and the Huntsman

Possibly the most evil and sadistic queen I have ever seen in a film, it really is an incredible performance and she had such an amazing screen presence.

2. Elizabeth II (Helen Mirren) – The Queen

An Oscar for Mirren in an incredible performance for a rather controversial film.

1. Elizabeth I (Cate Blanchett) – Elizabeth/Elizabeth: The Golden Age and (Judi Dench)  - Shakespeare in Love

Now for this role I could not leave either of these actresses out as they both brought different ages to the role. They are both so memorable, Dench won her Oscar for the shortest appearance in a film. Blanchett is just amazing in both of the Elizabeth films.
