Tommy Hilfiger allies with the Black Lives Matter movement through a bottom of $ 5 million to finance the launch of a new program dedicated to promoting the inclusiveness of minorities in fashion and in the creative industry.

The People's Place Program will be developed in a dedicated platform, founded on 3 key pillars than for the next 3 years will try to encourage the representation of blacks, indigenous people and people of color (BIPOC) in the fashion sector hoping to obtain consistent and long-term change.

"What's going on isn't good. We need action", he has declared Tommy Hilfiger.

The 3 pillars of the People's Place Program are:

  1. Partnerships & Representation: Tommy Hilfiger will enhance his talent network by focusing on partnerships aimed at increasing the visibility of minorities, and will collaborate with organizations and creatives whose mission is to advance BIPOC representation and equity in the fashion industry.

  2. Career Support & Industry Access: the brand will use its knowledge and resources to ensure career opportunities for BIPOC people by providing access to information, materials and specialist advice, introductions to the industry and more.

  3. Industry Leadership: To increase representation at all levels, Tommy Hilfiger will undertake to analyze diversity, equity and inclusiveness in the fashion industry independently and industrially, and will work to create concrete action plans to be used internally which can also be shared with the fashion industry in the broad sense.

"What is happening to black communities in the United States and around the world cannot happen in our society"he said Tommy Hilfiger. "We are far behind where we should be to get diversified representation [...] We shouldn't have taken so long to recognize it, but we are determined and committed to changing it in the future. We will be convinced, fearless and resolute in our actions. Through the People's Place Program, we will use our platform to create opportunities and fight for what is right ".

The program takes its name from the first Tommy Hilfiger store opened in 1969 in Elmira, in the designer's hometown. At just 18 years of age, Hilfiger created People's Place as a space dedicated to people from all walks of life to come together and share fashion, art, music and pop culture. Inspired by cultural revolution of the sixties, the original shop favored the exchange of ideas, encouraged authentic self-expression and challenged social norms. And in the same spirit the new People's Place Program was founded.
