Winter Solstice Festival is one the most important days in Chinese culture, where family members get together to celebrate their blessings as a family. One of the most significant activities during this meaningful day is to make and eat Tang Yuan 湯圓, or sweet dumplings.
Since getting married in 2009, I realised I've never once made 湯圓 for husband. lol. Now that I have Little Miss Two, I thought it'd be a perfect time to celebrate our blessings as a family. It takes luck and fate to become husband and wife, but it takes miracles to become a parent. And we are truly blessed to have Little Miss Two as our daughter.
While at the thought, I decided to make this year's Winter Solstice more memorable. And I went on to make these little piggies, amongst the normal round 湯圓. As I didn't have any colourings nor any red fruits at home, I resorted to using Blueberries for a hint of color. But the color didn't turn out as I'd hope it would. I used Chia Seeds for the eyes. What do you think of it? ;)
It's days like these that makes me feel so blessed to have the family together as a whole. While it hasn't been easy living apart for two to three weeks out of a month, it has made our relationship as a family that much stronger. It has made me realize how strong I am as a mother to my child. And it made me realize how far we've come as a family.
It's hard not to tear when I think about all these future events. But enough dwelling on the unpredictable future, let's check out what we did at the local park today.
Anyway, Happy Winter Solstice Festival, folks! It's a great time to show your family how much you love and appreciate them. May everyone stay happy and healthy always! <3
