Trying to keep your body, yourself, healthy and young is a great goal, and it isn’t that far out of reach. However, you do not need to search for the fountain of youth; you can make your own body your fountain of youth. See what changes you should make today to make your body function in a more youthful and resilient way, months and years from now.

Exercise Your Brain

The brain may not be a muscle, but the adage ‘use it or lose it’ still applies. According to a study in the journal; Nature in 2004, young people were taught how to juggle. After three months, MRI scans showed enlargement of the gray matter in their brains — the part responsible for higher mental functions.

When the participants in the study stopped juggling, their brains shrank again, suggesting that we need to keep our brains engaged in maintaining mental agility and function. That means you need to challenge your brain, whether it is doing a puzzle every day, sudoku, or some courses that pique your interest, these mentally stimulating activities will keep you young.

Stay Active

The benefits of being physically active are numerous; better cardiovascular health, lower risk of cancer and diabetes, improved stress management, and better longevity. So whether walking, swimming, running, or some other activity appeals to you, stay active to ward off disease, keep your bones strong, and your life long!

Be Social

Another critical aspect of a long lifestyle is being part of a social network with the support of friends and family. It is a good idea to stay social. A few friends and confidants can help you bear difficult times, and cope with hardship, more efficiently. In addition, factors that will help your immune system keep you healthy, whether going for coffee every so often, going on hikes, shopping, or even going for dinner.

Manage Your Stress Intake

Stress can take a toll on your health; stress symptoms can affect your body, thoughts and feelings, and behavior. Being able to recognize common stress symptoms can help you manage them. Left unchecked stress can contribute to many health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.

Talk to your doctor if you feel down or anxious for more than several weeks or if it starts to interfere with your home or work life. Therapy, medication, and other strategies can help. In the meantime, try and set limits and say no to requests that create excessive stress in your life. Instead, make time for hobbies and interests, seek out social support and spend enough time with those you love. Exercise and physical activity can also help improve your sleep and means better stress management.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Testosterone Replacement Therapy is so beneficial for a healthy heart and blood, plays a huge role in bone mineral density which decreases as we get older. It also improves your mood, memory and sex drive. All of these things lead to a long lasting life.

Diet

The benefits of eating healthy foods keep you youthful and improve your mental health. A healthy diet can lessen the effects of stress, build up your immune system, level your mood, and lower your blood pressure. Unfortunately, lots of added sugar and fat can have the opposite effect.

To stay healthy and on an even keel, look for complex carbohydrates, lean proteins, and fatty acids found in fish, meat, eggs, and nuts. Antioxidants help too. They protect your cells against damage that chronic stress can cause. You can find them in various foods like beans, fruits, berries, vegetables, and spices such as ginger.

Have More Sex

It may seem like a surprise, but getting active between the sheets can help keep you youthful. Sex is a painkiller and decreases stress, and enhances emotional intimacy. In addition, a study conducted by Psychology Today magazine found that the more active and satisfying a person’s sex life is, the fitter and healthier they tend to be.

Give Yourself a Break

We already know that stress causes physical changes in the body that can accelerate aging. Surges of hormones adrenaline and cortisol cause blood pressure to rise and the heart to beat faster. This can take a heavy toll on our physical and emotional health. The most effective way to halt this chain is to relax, take a few minutes to have a hot or cold drink, and take a breather.

Chances are, you don’t need to drastically change your daily habits to make improvements in these areas. But these changes can help add extra years to your life!
