Time Saving “Live Fleet” Tools – Part 2: Find Nearest Vehicle

Posted on the 06 March 2012 by Fleetmatics @fleetmatics

In last week’s post, part 1 of the Time-Saving Live Fleet Tools series, we discussed how using the Traffic feature in Live Fleet can help you divert drivers around delays.

Would knowing the closest vehicles to a location help save you time and money also? We’re thinking yes. In Part 2 of the series, we’ll discuss how to find your drivers that are nearest to a specific location, and how this can be a huge benefit to your company and your customers.

Using the Find Nearest Vehicle Feature in Live Fleet

You can use this feature in three different ways to find the five closest vehicles to an area. Many customers use this feature to shave off re-routing time and increase efficiency by sending the closest available vehicle. By saving time on the road and reducing distances travelled, this feature can help to reduce your fuel bill as well.

Do you Have the Address of the Location?

Hit the Search field above your vehicle list in Live Fleet, and select Search Address. This will bring you to a Google search where you can look by address, or latitude/longitude. Once you’ve selected your address, you can press Find Nearest Vehicle at the bottom of your screen.

Don’t know the address, but know the area?

Simply right click on this area on your Live Fleet map. A drop down menu will appear, and you can select Find Nearest Vehicle from there.

Has a vehicle broken down, and you need to send someone to them?

Use the vehicle list to your left in Live Fleet to your advantage. Click on the gray arrow icon next to the vehicle that needs assistance. The same drop-down will appear where you can select Find Nearest Vehicle.
