Time for Thyme; Thymus Vulgaris C.t. Linalool

By Yellowstar2000 @TherapeuticOils
Don’t you think it’s time for some thyme? It’s one of the most under-appreciated essential oils to be sure, and also one of the best.   Thyme is the perfect essential oil to start the year off right, I mean, the Greek work ‘thumus’ in which it was derived from, means courage, and isn’t courage exactly what we need to begin again? Plus with it’s amazing purification properties, it’s also the perfect e.o. to start a new year. And even the way we speak the word Thyme, it is the same as how we speak the word Time…. it just makes it all seem so copacetic and synchronous LOL   So, without further ado…here’s all about thyme , especially my favorite type; Thymus vulgaris c.t. Linalool (most mild type):     Two wonderful Thyme essential oils from Synergy: Thyme c.t. linalool fron France, and “Benchmark” thyme from the UK. Thyme linalool is the most gentle of the Thymus vulgaris varieties, with potent antibacterial properties, yet a gentle nature. “Benchmark” thyme is a combination of four pure thyme essential oils of Thymus zygis, and is certainly one of the most effective antibacterial essential oils available today.

Botanical Name: Thymus vulgaris c.t. Linalool

Derived from the Greek word ‘thumus’ meaning ‘courage’, Thyme is a perennial evergreen shrub with small, stalky stems sprouting small, ovoid grey-green fragrant leaves and pale purple flowers. This Linalool chemotype is reputedly the most gentle variety and is native to the sun-exposed Spanish hills and the rocky banks of the Mediterranean sea.

The Middle Ages saw Thyme prescribed for a wide range of ailments including: paralysis, leprosy, body lice and as a general antimicrobial and antiviral tonic used externally and internally.

As time progressed, the uses of Thyme oil became more broad spectrum. It was employed in pre and post-surgical dressings, to prevent and kill the yellow fever virus (transmitted by mosquitoes) during WWI. More recently, it’s antioxidant properties have been explored regarding natural food preservation and studies on many forms of cancer.
