Tiki Faces

If you want to encourage your students make BOLD art, then try giving them really BOLD markers, as in the fat, chisel tip Sharpie variety. It really makes a big difference.
1. Students fold brown paper in half down the center to help them draw symmetrically. I show them how to draw big eyes at an angle, and a large mouth, and left the rest up to their imagination. All kinds of doodles were possible, they just had to me symmetrical.
2. All the art is traced with a thick Sharpie marker. I also told students there had to be some shapes that were solid black to add variety.
