Thurstan College recorded a 66 runs victory over Maris Stella Negambo on the D/L method in their Under 19 Division One Tier B semi-final cricket fixture played at Surrey grounds Maggona yesterday.
Thurstan led by all-rounder Bhawantha Jayasinghe batting first put on 225 for 9 wickets in 50 overs. When the rain halted the game Maris Stella were 92 for 6 wickets in 29.4 overs and according to the D/L method Maris Stella had to get 159 runs at that stage and Thurstan got a 66-run win to enter the final.
Thurstan opener Tharindu Harshana top-scored 58 with 4 fours in 80 balls while skipper Bhawantha Jayasinghe (32) and Vihas Thewmika (33) made useful contributions. Maris Stella chasing their 226 runs target, Kaveen Fernando top-scored 38 while off-spinner Vihas Thewmika was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 27 in his 8 over spell steered Thurstan to victory. Thurstan will meet the winners of today’s semi-final between St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya and Isipatana in the final which is scheduled to be played on April 11 at Bloomfield grounds. Meanwhile, Sri Sumangala Panadura beat Tissa Central by 3 wickets in division 2 Tier ‘A semi-final fixture at Panagoda. Taxila Central beat Bandaranayake College by 16 runs in Division 2 Tier B semi-final played at Dombagoda yesterday.
