I see that MD judges want a $29k raise, Bowie-based health magazine pays settlement for harassment, Upper Marlboro native steps down from Susan G. Komen after flap over defunding Planned Parenthood, Paint Branch Elementary adds Chinese immersion program

Did ANYONE else know that the Maryland’s Court of Appeals judges wore these “uniform” robes?  I say give them a raise just so they can afford a better ensemble.  Court of Appeals Judge Clayton Green testified before the state’s House Appropriations Committee that the raise is needed to keep talented judges on the bench and lure lawyers from lucrative private practices.  Maryland’s 284 judges haven’t had a raise since 2005.  According to reports, Maryland delegates are not likely to support the raise.

Your Health Magazine owners Professional Media Organization will will pay $58,000 and furnish other relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).  This company allegedly harassed and unlawfully fired a person with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Auditory Processing Disorder (ADP).

Remember my post on Upper Marlboro native Karen Handel and how she was said to be at the center of the policy decision to defund Planned Parenthood’s breast cancer screening programs?  Well she has stepped down as senior vice president of policy.  Some say she is just the scapegoat.  Handel maintains that the Susan G. Komen foundation discussed and approved the decision to defund 17 of the 19 Planned Parenthood affiliates. 

Paint Branch Elementary School in college Park has added a Chinese language and culture immersion program.  China is now a super power and this program seeks to prepare our little, cute futures for a global workforce.
