Three Suspects Arresting for Sharing False Content on FB Regarding “Mahaviru Celebrations”

The Criminal Investigation Department has arrested three suspects in connection with disturbing the public by making propaganda for the celebrations of the LTTE, a banned organization. The police said that the arrested suspects are aged 28, 35 and 45 and are residents of Maradana, Chunnakam and Baddegama areas.

Suspects Circulating photos and videos with the image of Velupilla Prabhakaran, the leader of LTTE, a banned organization in the island, through a Facebook social network account as well as the old videos taken during the Mahaviru celebrations of the LTTE organization in the previous years as the celebrations of this year.

Accordingly, these suspects are accused of inciting and attempting to incite public opposition and promoting the activities of a banned organization by publishing false advertisements and videos on the Internet through Facebook.

Theyve arrested on 120 of the Penal Code and Section 27 of the Provisional Provisions Act for the Prevention of Terrorism No. 48 of 1979 for the above reasons. The Criminal Investigation Department and the Terrorist Investigation Division are investigating the incident further.
