Three Meters Above the Sky (Summertime): What is the Netflix Series Worth Against the Backdrop of Teenage Romance? – News Series on TV

Far from the provocative "Baby", the new Italian series from Netflix, "Three meters above the sky" tells the love story between two teenagers from different universes. Is this adaptation of Federico Moccia's bestseller worth the detour?

What does it look like ?

Well worth a look ?

Already best transposed on the big screen (especially in Spain in 2010 under the title Twilight Love), the best-seller Three meters above the sky, written by the novelist Federico Moccia in 1992, is entitled to its first adaptation in series thanks to Netflix. But there is not much left of the original material in this eight-episode adolescent romance that simply takes up the basic premise - a model high school student who falls in love with a young biker who is breaking away from her family - and erases the whole aspect. dramatic and tragic of the novel which saw the heroes, Sabi and Step, as well as their band of friends, crossing all the limits and getting lost in a destructive spiral with great strokes of frantic motorbike races. At least if we refer to the first four episodes we watched and the synopses of the next four available on the streaming platform.

Similar to far too many romantic American films without flavor, Three meters above the sky (whose international title is Summertime) quickly reveals itself to be devoid of depth and originality. The situations are mostly seen and reviewed, the pace is far too slow for a series consisting of only eight episodes of 40 minutes, and it is difficult to really get attached to the two heroes, Summer and Ale, who are certainly not not helped by the blatant lack of chemistry between their interpreters, Coco Rebecca Edogamhe and Ludovico Tersigni (already spotted in the Italian version of Skam). The scriptwriters may try to dig the flaws of this perfect high school student who wants more than anything to give meaning to her life and of this rebel "a bit" motorcycle champion who opposes her family following her decision to leave the competitions behind him, the mayonnaise does not take. And this emerging romance, which evokes Marissa and Ryan from Newport Beach as much as Nathan and Haley from the Scott Brothers or Nadia and Guzman from Elite (you see the genre, the nice girl and the bad boy in short), never happens really fascinating. Without stakes certainly and real twists and turns.

Despite a worked soundtrack, a rather licked image, an effort of notable diversity at the level of the casting, in comparison with the previous adaptations of the novel, and some more interesting secondary characters (Dario and Sofia) that we would have liked more developed, Three meters above the sky unfortunately falls into the category of series quickly seen and quickly forgotten from the catalog of Netflix and can only convince the least demanding viewers. Because even above the sky, the observation is clear: there is really nothing new under the sun of this harmless but uninspired bluette. We have seen better elsewhere 100 times, and in the genre of teen series the other novelty put online this week on Netflix, My First Times, full of heart and humor, is much more recommendable.
