Threaded // Know Your Style

By Gentrilee

Hi Gentri Lee readers! My name is Haylee Atkinson and I'm a seamstress and aspiring fashion designer from Utah. I blog over at Threaded and let me be honest, I feel totally inadequate contributing to this series today. I was so flattered when Gentri asked me though, so I'm just going to roll with it and pretend like I know what I'm doing.
So, style- it's something I've been thinking about recently, actually. Sometimes I feel like people get a bad rap for liking style or for paying attention to what they wear. And you know, I've found that that's not really fair. Anything that brings fulfillment or happiness in someone's life shouldn't be judged. For some, style is an outlet- a way to self express. Like painting is for some people, or writing, or music. It's a way to get to know more about yourself and a way to identity with the world. (That sounds so cheesy, but it's true!) Style and design are actually a big part of my life because I spend a good amount of my time sewing. And frankly, I know it's not curing cancer, but that doesn't mean it's a waste of my time. It makes me happy and I think that should count for something.

People have all different types of interests, and I think it's good to remember that if it's bringing someone happiness, then it's serving a purpose.

Ok sorry to go on a tangent about that. I just think fashion bloggers tend to get a bad rap sometimes and it doesn't seem fair.

For me personally, my style is pretty standard and simple. Not out-of-this-world different from the norm but works for me. I like to make skirts and dresses so I end up wearing those often. I feel like I often times look too "dressed up", but it's honestly because I feel 100x more comfortable in dresses than I do in jeans. Jeans are like torture traps, I swear. I do also spend lots of days in leggings and oversized shirts and sweaters. Oh and when I'm home, there's about a 99% chance I'm in pajamas, even if it's 3 PM. Comfort is key to me.

Here are some of my current favorites; I've been loving midi skirts, crop tops, clogs, chunky knit sweaters, boots, different textures and fabrics (chiffon, lace, etc.), and pleated skirts. I'm also drawn to whites and lighter colors for some reason. I'd love to design wedding dresses someday for that very reason.

And that's me! What kinds of things have you been loving lately? Doesn't even have to be style related, just anything in general. -Haylee
