Thonian Horde - Inconnu

My favorite black'n'rollers Thonian Horde are back with
their sophomore album, 'Inconnu' and they certainly go from strength to
strength. These dark souls from Maryland
spare no punches whatsoever as they take annihilating step after annihilating
step in their conquest of the world. What they created on their debut is here
in spades but they've upped the ante breathtakingly well.
The biggest change from the excellent self-titled debut is
that everything is even better now. It's all tighter, in-your-face and the
sound is fuller and richer. Don't want to take anything away from the past, but
man, the guys have stepped it up and then some. Also, by pulling out all the
stops, 'Inconnu' is even more dark and fierce than before, as well as being a
juggernaut hell-bent on creating the best music possible. And they succeed
pretty damned well.
My personal favourites are ‘Stygian Rhyme’, ‘Angels, Devils
And The Serpent Grey’, ‘Atrocious’, ‘Inconnu’ and ‘Iris Effect’. There’s not a
single bad song on here but these 5 stand out for sure. However, everything
Thonian Horde are as a band are represented perfectly within this group. The
brutal, no-holds-barred onslaught of ‘Stygian Rhyme’ and ‘Inconnu’ with hints
of The Crown; the diverse almost progressive undertones of ‘Angels, Devils And
The Serpent Grey’; the Iron Maiden-esque trappings wrapped in furious
black’n’roll in ‘Atrocious’; the slightly slower pace – everything’s relative –
in the death/doom crusher ‘Iris Effect’. All this ties together and creates the
dark world of Thonian Horde…and it’s bloody fantastic!
This beast of an album has been out for quite some time now
and it is getting better and better by the minute. So sometimes taking time to
write about a wax is beneficial since more nuances and angles appears the more
time you give it. Regardless, ‘Inconnu’ is a must-have for all of you
waveriders who loves badass black’n’roll with a good dollop of death metal
added for perfect flavouring. Don’t wait, get your hands on this band’s great
music and go absolutely bonkers spinning it!
