It’s all about being outside this weekend! So don’t stay in -enjoy the dry weather while it lasts!
Saturday
There’s the 2016 Antwerp Harbour Run taking place at 3pm. There’s a 15km run and three 5km runs. You can see the route here and registration for the 15km remains open online until Friday, but you can also register on the day itself at the event site from midday.
Born in Antwerp is holding three fashion design sessions during September. These are free and held on the Kattendijkdok at BiA HQ.
And in Borgerhout there will be a procession of giants on and around the Turnhoutsebaan. Be around de Roma Theatre at 1 o’clock for a good view of the 304th edition of this unusual parade.
Sunday
Today is Antwerp’s car -free day. Roads in and around the center will be closed to cars between 10am and 6pm. This map shows the car-free zone. Instead of cars, there will be plenty of bikes, trikes, pedestrians, wheelchair users and outdoor play activities claiming the streets, as well as stands offering lots of information about environmentally-friendly transport initiatives, and activities. It’s a really good day to be in the town, particularly if you have kids and the weather is good. Additionally on Twaalfmaandenstraat (off Meir) there will be a Food Market.
Keep walking, and head to the Stadspark for the Goegekregen second hand market between 9am and 6pm on the van Eycklei side of the park.
Or if you are heading down to the old town, you’ll find Swan Market on Grote Markt between midday and 6pm. (image from Swan Market)
A little further afield it’s Wild Jo’s Market again (see Saturday, above).
Down on Vorstermanstraat 1 near the kaaien, Flamenco Centre Peña al Andalus is holding an Open Day and offering the chance to have a free trial lesson.
Into Pokemon Go? Pokemon Go Belgium have organised another event in Antwerp: Meet & Walk starting at 10am at Eilandje (that’s the area around MAS museum). (Image from Pixabay)
The temperatures are likely to drop off from the remarkable highs we have had this week, and it could be cloudier at times, but the weather is still predicted to be warm and dry on Saturday and Sunday. There maybe some showers on Friday during the middle of the day.
Miscellaneous
Here is the GOOGLE MAP with all of the locations you will need this weekend.
Don’t forget the Roald Dahl Program throughout September at the Permeke Library. You can also download Roald Dahl activities for yourself from the Roald Dahl site.
If you use the tram regularly around the town centre, be aware that Metro Station Opera is closed (for at least a year) due to the work on the Noorderlijn.
