Sondre Lerche – Bad Law SoundCloud

Sondre Lerche has been teasing his social media followers for weeks with clips and hints about his upcoming album, Please, but finally the tantalizing has come to an end and Sondre Lerche fans everywhere are rejoicing over his first release in three years, “Bad Law”. For over a decade, Lerche has dabbled in a wide array of musical styles, from singer-songwriter to jazz to dance pop, but is most outstanding when he combines all of the above.

“Bad Law” exemplifies Lerche’s musical finesse — at its core “Bad Law” is a dance track guided by clean, syncopated guitar and sharp drum hits which occasionally emulate disco themes. As always, the mellow tone of Lerche’s lilting voice softens the crispness of the production style, building toward a falsetto chorus so poppy, it could fit in just as well in a Pharrell song. While Lerche has a knack for writing pop songs, his personal trademark is defined by the moments of spiraling cacophony and disorder, often sparked by unexpected melodic cadences (usually alluding to jazz structures), which add some necessary grit in the midst of the sweetness. For the past ten years, Sondre Lerche has been the king of my music pantheon, so much so that my heart stops in fear of disappointment whenever he releases something new. After “Bad Law”, I’m thrilled to say that his record is still intact! My question now is, how do I pass the time until the rest of the album is released…
