From MyFoxChicago: Three people were killed and at least 37 others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening.
The most recent homicide happened early Sunday in the Kenwood neighborhood on the South Side. Two teenagers were walking in an alley about 12:50 a.m. in the 4700 block of South Ellis when a red minivan pulled up and someone inside opened fire, according to Chicago Police.
One boy, thought to be 15 or 16 years old, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The other boy, 16, suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg and was taken to the hospital, but additional information was not immediately available. The teenager’s body could be seen lying a few yards from at least eight shell casings on the alley sidewalk next to a three-story apartment building.
About 11 p.m. Saturday, a man was fatally shot in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side. Officers responding to a call of a person on the ground found a 23-year-old man lying in a vacant lot, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A weapon was recovered at the scene, but no one was in custody early Sunday as Area Central detectives investigate.
Earlier Saturday night, a 19-year-old man was shot to death in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. He was driving in the 4900 block of West Augusta about 8:45 p.m. when shots rang out and he suffered three gunshot wounds to the shoulder and side, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm any of the fatalities early Sunday.
The latest nonfatal shooting happened at 4:44 a.m. Sunday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. Officers found a man, thought to be between 40 and 50 years old, with a gunshot wound to the head in the 4500 block of West Maypole, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
About 3:15 a.m., four more people were wounded in three separate shootings on the North, South and Southwest sides.
In the Wicker Park neighborhood, a 32-year-old got into a argument with a group of males in the 2100 block of North Avenue, police said. One of the males in the group pulled out a gun and shot the man in the left shoulder and back. He was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition was stabilized.
In Gresham, a man was shot and critically wounded in the Washington Park neighborhood. The 22-year-old was parking a vehicle in the first block of East Garfield when a black SUV pulled up and someone inside fired shots, police said. He suffered gunshot wounds to the neck and right arm and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital.
In Brighton Park, a 16-year-old boy and 34-year-old man were shot in the 2400 block of West 45th Street, police said. The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital. The teenager was shot in the left buttocks and right arm and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. Police said the shooting appears to be gang-related.
At least 31 other people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since about 7:30 p.m. Friday.
