Ahh summer sun! How I adore you. While all the fashionista in the Southern states of Australia are putting on their Chelsea boots and cable knit sweaters, here in Brisbane Queensland we’re blessed with balmy evenings of 28°C, warm enough for me to dip into the pool after work – jealous much?
Glowing sun-kissed skin is summer have-must for myself and many of you summer-loving babes. While the cooler months are approaching with a bit of poolside breeze, it doesn’t mean that you won’t get flaky sunburnt skin just because you don’t feel the scorching heat. In fact, sun protection is absolutely vital year round for all of you who wish to stay pretty forever. Here I share with you a few tips on how being sun smart and staying stylish at the poolside is as simple as S-P-F!
I never chill at poolside without S-P-F…
S: Sunglasses and Sunscreen with SPF 30 or above for face and body
P: Protector hair spray
F: Floppy hat or Fedora, or any other wide-brimmed hat with a hint of 70′s chic!
Favourite poolside outfit at the moment…
I’m totally addicted to buying these boho Kimonos lately! It’s fabulous for cover up over your bikini body against sun damage. Oh, and did I say it’s just so 70′s, whimsical and romantic pairing with a straw fedora hat while shielding you from the sun?
My daily beauty secret…
I use Giorgio Armani Maestro Foundation with SPF15 in the morning. I also make sure I have plenty of Vitamin C intake daily. Research suggests that Vitamin C helps to reduce sunburn caused by exposure to ultraviolet B radiation and prevent the effects of long-term sun exposure. Berries and papaya are my favourites among various Vitamin C rich fruits.
Everyday handbag must haves (or those non-poolside days)…
1. SPF15 sunscreen for face and body. I make sure I apply sunscreen to my face and body around 30 minutes before I head out for lunch. Don’t ever underestimate the damage from 15 minutes of direct sun exposure at noontime when you go stretch your legs during lunch hours!
2. Lip blam with SPF15. Don’t ever forget to apply lip balm with SPF to keep your lips most luscious and kissable. This is the most commonly over-looked part of the body for sun protection.
3. Beach sarongs. Not that I’m lucky enough to be sun-bathing on the beach everyday, but on a mild sunny day I love having an impromptu picnic in the city parks. An oversized sarong is the most versatile piece in my handbag as I use it as cover up under the sun, picnic rug or just dust off the leaves on my clothes afterwards.
