Hello everyone, I hope all is well with you. I’ve had a busy week of working and writing. Both are going well. I’m almost to the end of my story. I didn’t even realize it until this weekend. It’s closer than I thought. 😊
But enough about that. Today, I’d like to talk about being patient. We have to be patient with ourselves when we’re pursuing a goal whether it’s weight loss, a promotion, or a creative endeavor.
It’s hard to be patient. I remember when I ran cross country, I couldn’t wait to get to the finish line. What a sense of accomplishment when I finished. It was awesome. I have the same mindset in my creative endeavors as well. To create the best scenes though, I need to slow down.
We’ve become a society fixated on the result. We’re hooked on that feeling of finishing. Sometimes we forget that we need to focus on the journey instead. In my humble opinion, we should take pride and celebrate that scene we’ve been sweating over. Small celebrations are important, so we’ll keep chugging away until we reach the end. Our focus should change. Instead of focusing on finishing, we should focus on creating the best we can.
Now, don’t get me wrong. It’s good to have the desire to get to the end. We need it to make ourselves push through the hard stuff, but the beauty of our writing is in the scene we create. So don’t be afraid to slow down and really put the work into it.
That pertains to anything in life. We have to not be afraid to suck at it in the beginning. I’m hoping I convey this to my kids. I hope they know it’s okay to be bad at something until they’re good at it. It takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at anything. Writing. Sales. Running. There are no shortcuts. We must do the work.
Thanks for stopping by and reading my post. I appreciate it. Do you have any thoughts regarding patience and hanging in there to give your best effort? Leave a comment! I’d love to hear from you!
