The End is Where We Begin will stay with me for a long time. I thought this was an incredible book, beautifully written, tragic, yet full of love and hope to balance out the darkness of which there is a lot. Jay is a fantastic character, someone with depth and layers I felt real empathy for. He's a regular guy, doing his best to raise his son alone because his mother was too busy making a career for herself to be a Mum; after all she just got pregnant in the first place to upset her wealthy parents. He struggles a lot of the time because he experiences extreme anxiety due to a tragic event from the past which shaped and changed his life forever. His son is now a teenager and he's never really dealt with what happened to him and his friends. He determines to seek out his old friends and his old love and make amends, unwittingly stirring up dark memories which threaten the fragile life he's built. This is an astonishing book.
