IDW was nice enough to provide an advanced review issue of The X-Files Season 10 #2 and I thought I would give you a short review along with a peek inside the issue.
X-Files Season 10 alternate cover
The X-Files Season 10 #1 certainly revived my interest in The X-Files when it hit last month. I was really looking forward to #2 and it did not disappoint. This issue picks up by introducing a familiar character that was not in #1, Agent John Doggett. He is investigating a pipeline in Wyoming and is immediately drawn into the story with a bang. The big mystery introduced to us already is what happened to Scully’s son, William? In typical X-Files fashion, we get answers, but they are shrouded in more questions. We find out a little more about the hooded figures that chased her throughout the last issue, but not enough to let on to what the heck is happening.
The re-introduction of Doggett isn’t the only familiar character in this issue either. As you probably guessed by the cover, we also get to see what happened to The Lone Gunmen, and the answer is perfectly fitting for this trio. I won’t spoil any of it for you, but you will not be surprised. Finally, we get a glimpse in the last two panels of another familiar character, one that is absolutely integrated into The X-Files as much as Mulder and Scully. Who is it? You’ll just have to wait and see.
As with issue #1, this book continues to get it right. It feels like The X-Files. I am very interested in seeing where this leads and I hope that they find a way to introduce a creature of the week to go along with the established mythology of the series. Some of the best episodes were stand alone and I bet the book would benefit from that too. If you liked issue #1 then issue #2 is more of the same. Add it to your pull list and be happy you did.
As promised, here is a look at the first 9 pages of issue #2. Click the link and enjoy!
