The World Framed by an Arch

Almudaina Palace through the arch, Palma de Mallora, Spain

Just as I have a favorite composer, I also have a favorite architectural element: the arch. (Professionally, I write about architecture and design, so I often notice details on buildings.) What I like most about arches — whether they are structural, architectural, just a design element, or some combination of those three — is the sense they give of both concealing and revealing what’s beyond them.
