Story: The Whip starts as Sadie Baxter (Denovan) finds her financial support threatened. She is a full-time carer for her sister Emily (Fozzard), and the government plans to restructure the benefits system. Meanwhile, politician Michael Harrington (Knight) has become frustrated with the potential changes.
Michael challengers Chief Whip Damian Wilson (Bullock Jnr) on the stance, only to learn his past could haunt him. Elsewhere, Sadie decides she needs to step up to make sure the vote doesn’t go through and decides she wants to steal the Chief Whip’s black book and get a fair outcome to the vote. Sadie brings together Abi (Wesson), Michael (Knight) and hacker Jason (Davids) to complete the heist.
Verdict on The Whip
The Whip is a political thriller following a full-time carer outraged by a new political idea who decides to make a stand. She puts together a team including her best friend, a disgraced politician and hacker to steal the black book of the Chief Whip.
This thriller takes us into the world of corrupt politics by showing how one person controls the votes of everyone. It does this with an unlikely team performing a heist to expose the corruption. This side of the film is entertaining and rivals most heist movies. Deeper down, the movie addresses a very real problem the country faces with certain acts, that could put people’s lives in a dangerous place. A lot of this could be reflected in real life, with real frustration members of the public are going through. The performances are great and the unlikely team show the awkwardness at times, which is needed because of reputations, while also handling mentor-like moments.
