The Well – Release News

Federico Zampaglione’s gothic horror The Well starring Lauren LaVera has opened 7th in the Italian box office making it the most successful independent release of the Summer. Iperuranio Films who also produced the film has booked 60 theaters across the country including The Space and Giometti multiplex chains.
Set in a remote Italian village, final girl Lauren LaVera (Terrifier 2 + 3) stars as a young American art restorer hired by a mysterious duchess (Claudio Gerini – John Wick: Chapter 2) to bring a medieval painting back to its former glory. Little does she know she has fallen prey to a cabal of evil witches who drink the blood of tourists to achieve eternal life.

Zampaglione has been dubbed the Jekyll & Hyde of Italy due to his hybrid career in the entertainment business. As a national pop star he has several number 1 hits – all romantic ballads, but as a director he is known for gruesome, blood drenched horror films such as Shadow and Tulpa, which carry the torch for giallo – a cinematic tradition established by the masters of Italian horror, Mario Bava, Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. This is why cinemas are providing their audience with vomit bags, to reduce the time it takes to clean-up theaters between screenings.

In USA, Uncork’d Entertainment will release on 5 screens from August 9th, including Film Noir Cinema in Brooklyn and Lumiere Music Hall in Los Angeles, where they hope to appeal to the same audience as last year’s Terrifier 2, which also starred Lauren LaVera.

In South East Asia, Suraya Films has booked 180 screens in Vietnam (opening August 23rd) 23 screens in Cambodia (opening August 19th) and 20 screens in Malaysia.

Other territories gearing up for a theatrical release include Germany where the film will screen in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Cologne, Nuremburg and Stuttgart as part of Fantasy Film Fest and Latin America where Venus Films are planning to release on over 600 screens across the continent.

A buzz title on the festival circuit, THE WELL received its world premiere at Sitges, its US premiere at Screamfest LA and will next screen at Grimmfest in Manchester where it will receive its English premiere before a wider UK release by High-Fliers
