The Way of Fate: A True Story From the Kindertransport by George Shefi is about your beliefs and abilities. You can become a changemaker in the world depending on these two factors. In fact, even though we are too small in this huge world, it doesn't nullify our significance. The story is about a great mother who had all the courage in this world to depart with her young child. George was just two when the Nazis came to power in Germany. Before that, he was having a happy childhood with his single mother, grandfather, and aunt. That entry of the Nazis was in fact, the beginning of the horrors of Kristallnacht. Kristallnacht or the Night of the Broken Glass indicates the night of November 9, 1938, that was the beginning of a big disaster. It was a period of deadly attacks on Jews by Nazis.
By the time George was around seven, the risk of his life was at its peak. His mother had no choice but to send him to England with the Kindertransport. That was probably the foundation of this book The Way of Fate: A True Story From the Kindertransport by George Shefi. It is really a showcase of great sacrifice, courage, and bravery on the part of a mother who knows that she is departing her son forever. There was little or no chance of mother and child meeting again in the future. George was too young to understand the severity of the matter. But his mother was aware of the risk she was taking. The fate had taken a decision at that time that the two will not see each other ever. George's mother was murdered soon after that incidence. George was in a homeless refuge just at the age of seven.
He was traveling to various countries in a hope to find a home. First, he reaches England from where he travels to an uncle in America. This was during World War II. Finally, he immigrates to Israel in 1949 where he finds his home. Gradually, after studies, he joins Navy and marries Yael. It is his wife who inspires him at his 70th birthday after 48 years of their marriage. She inspires him to share his painful story with the world. And thus comes this book The Way of Fate: A True Story From the Kindertransport by George Shefi. The book also reveals how George was able to discover his father accidentally in Australia. The author was 35 at that time. The credit of this book also goes to his three daughters who pushed him hard to write this book.
The Way of Fate: A True Story From the Kindertransport by George Shefi is for everyone who has an interest in history. You get to learn a lot about Kinderstransport and Kristallnacht. While both are German terms, it is interesting to learn about the real incidents and their connection with World War II. In fact, Kindertransport happened just nine months before the Second World War. Learn more about it while reading this interesting autobiography.
