Saturday August 3rd: Jamie, Gabriel, Avrie and I had a fun filled day of sugar and FUN at the Washington County Fair with Grandpa Billy. Jamie and I have great memories of this fair from when WE were kids. We spent the entire weekend and many hours helping out with the Schlomka Services booth while Grandma &Grandpa Schlomka were among one of the WC vendors. We loved it- we ran around eating fair food all day and one year- I even brought home a bunny!! R.I.P. Tinkerbell!
We started the day out by walking in and out of each animal barn- all the while Avrie, Grandpa & Gabriel were hand in hand (SO cute)! Avrie was all about getting nice and close so that she could pet the animals. She was sort of confused with the llama's, calling them camels but hey- they kind of look like camels, don't they!? ;)
After a good hand washing & sanitizing, Grandpa then bought the kids some ride tickets and they decided on all the "vehicle rides" with the semi truck ride being the cutest ride ever! They also found themselves in the cars (Avrie riding shot gun) and then Jamie and I joined the kids on the Carousel. *Note: this summer I found myself on a carousel three times and found myself REALLY dizzy each time- YICKS, a sure sign of getting old Whomp Whompppp! Of the joys of being OLD and also having a toddler- all for the love of fun, Avrie LOVES the carousel horsies.
After rides we roamed the fair grounds in search of a good 'ol fair food lunch- we had pizza (sat and watched the pig races) pronto pups, mini donuts, ice cream, DOLE WHIP! &pop! aka sugar! sugar! and more sugar! This was a real treat, the kids loved it and ANYTHING they asked for grandpa billy got for them, including pony rides & a balloon hunt- which by the way were such a pain in the butt to hang on to, haha! all together now.... SPOILED!
After a walk through all of the tractors and bumping into a few people we recognized (Tristan, Marv/Kim & Daycare Jessica & family) the kids were about done. They did AWESOME walking around the fair for almost 3 hours! We knew it was time to go when all they wanted was to be carried and the please and thank yous went away. Both kids turn into puddles when they are over tired. SO we headed to the car and thanked Grandpa Billy for a super fun day at the fair!
Later that night I got a picture text from my Dad of Avrie on the pony rides and me walking next to her with a message saying "had a great day. thank you". Quality time isn't something that we get much of with our Dad, so I am glad he had a great time with Dad & the kids He thoroughly enjoys the Grandpa role.
I am hoping that this will be a summer tradition for many years to come! Making it a fun memory for the kids and something to look forward to with Grandpa Billy!
