That was an interesting episode. Three people really fought to stay in the competition, and Team Blake suffered from really uninteresting song choices.
Holly Tucker- When God Fearing Women Get The Blues
I suppose this is an OK song for her, but Holly never seems to connect with the lyrics. Vocally, its an OK song for her, but the lights are on and no one is home. Amber Carrington really does connect with all her lyrics, so its hard to imagine what that would be like with Holly. She’s continually the weakest ‘performer’, and she might be saying goodbye this week. FINAL GRADE: C+
Michelle Chamuel- Somewhere Only We Know
Love. Michelle has never been my immediate favorite, but now she is. This song in her voice is absolutely heartbreaking and captivating. My favorite performance of the season. FINAL GRADE: A +
Swon Brothers- Wagon Wheel
The Brothers Swon struggle with pitch a bit tonight, as well as struggling to not bore the audience to death. Oh good! They’re from Oklahoma! That should help them since no one will be voting for them because they sounded good this week. FINAL GRADE: C-
Sasha Allen- Ain’t No Way
FINALLY a song that fits Sasha’s voice so she doesn’t have to shout/scream the entire song. She soothingly caresses each note here, actually SINGING a song. This is the best performance Sasha has had to date. Finally, Sasha shows what she has to offer. FINAL GRADE: A
Danielle Bradbury- Shake The Sugar Tree
I don’t know why Danielle is being depimped this week, but neither of these songs are great. They’re both just average songs that Danielle sings very averagely. FINAL GRADE: C+
Amber Carrington- I Remember You
So that was a cool arrangement. Way to take a hard rock song and spin it into a country ballad. It felt like it could be Amber’s single. FINAL GRADE: A
The Swon Brothers- Okie from Muskogee
This song requires more personality than the Brothers Swon have to offer. It’s a little better than their first song, but not much. FINAL GRADE: C
Holly Tucker- My Wish
Hate this song in her voice, and I hate that she has no idea how to connect to lyrics. Ever. With anything. FINAL GRADE: D+
Michelle Chamuel- I Knew You Were Trouble
Really cool arrangement. I love the moment when Taylor Swift is speechless, because Michelle is obviously more of an artist than she is. Michelle made a Taylor Swift song sound like it wasn’t a Taylor Swift song, which is really hard. FINAL GRADE: A
Amber Carrington- Crazy
A little old fashioned, but she sings it well. I wish, when the competition is this close, that she would choose better songs. (Not that Patsy Cline isn’t great, it’s just an old fashioned song). FINAL GRADE: B
Danielle Bradbury- A Little Bit Stronger
My least favorite of Danielle’s two incredibly dull performances. And that last note? I apparently heard something different. FINAL GRADE: C
Sasha Allen- Before He Cheats
OK, well, we’re back to shouty screamy Sasha. I mean… she can do better. FINAL GRADE: B-
