From USA TODAY bestselling author Colleen Coble comes a news series set amid the gorgeous lavender fields of Washington state–but the beauty masks deadly secrets. Shauna McDade is single mom to a five-year-old son after her husband was killed in a climbing accident. Her aerial photography business is on the verge of bankruptcy after a string of mechanical failures that don’t seem coincidental. She recently took pictures for an environmental study and noticed a dark spot in the Juan de Fuca Strait. Her pictures created a furor when it was discovered that the runoff is coming from one of the largest lavender growers in the valley, a family business inherited by Shauna’s estranged cousin. When her mentor and business partner is murdered, Shauna realizes that she’s in danger too. Fearing for her son, she turns to the only ally she has. Nate Bannister was her husband’s best friend–and is the person she blames for his death. Nate is only too happy to try to assuage his own guilt over Jack’s death by helping her in any way he can. But the lavender fields are a shroud for something much darker, and these are secrets that someone will do anything to keep buried.

Whenever I see that Colleen Coble has another book out, I get very excited and hope somehow through some blogging group or another I’ll get the opportunity to read it before it’s released.  As you can see by today’s book, The View from Rainshadow Bay, I was lucky enough to get this one in advance! I’ll start out the post by telling you that as soon as this book is released – January 23, 2018 to be exact – you need to get your copy of this book!

The View from Rainshadow Bay is a very interesting suspense and mystery story with a little romance too.  There are several story lines going on all at one time with everything wrapping up very perfectly at the end.

Shauna McDade is a widow with a son, Alex, who is trying to make a living for them both since her husband’s accidental death. She operates a helicopter and she takes passengers from Vancouver back and forth to Lavender Tides.

And then there’s Zach Bannister, her husband, Jack’s best friend who encouraged her husband to take risks while in a climbing race together which ultimately caused his death a year earlier. Needless to say, Shauna hates Zach.

Then her mentor, Clarance is killed when a bomb explodes and his wife, Lucy, gets stabbed.  As Shauna begins to fear for her life and the safety of her son, she realizes that maybe Zach could be a safe place for her and Alex until she can get to the bottom of what is happening in Lavender Tides.

As the plot continues to thicken, Shauna finds shocking secrets that cause her to question everything she believed to be the truth about her mother’s death and her father’s motives and ultimately,  Jack’ death.

I don’t write spoilers but I will say there is something happening in the fields near her father’s property that some evil villains will kill to keep a secret.  Shauna and Jack’s investigation into the strange deaths and unusual environmental occurrences, bring them together emotionally until their relationship turns into love at the same time the killer is discovered.

I loved Shauna and Zach’s characters – their honesty and how they conduct themselves. They don’t let what other people think about them affect their actions.  The story was very well written, the characters were awesome, and it was a nice and smooth quick read.
