The Value of the UK's Wool Industry Soars to £1.25 Bn

Britain's wool industry is making a comeback after it was nearly killed off by the trend for man-made fibres in the 1970s and 80s.

Figures from 2008 to 2010 show that the value of the UK wool clothing market has soared to £1.25 billion, including knitwear and work gear as well as suits and luxury fashion brands.

Exports of wool fabric and clothing are pumping millions more into the UK economy as 70 per cent of the wool textiles manufactured in the UK are now sold overseas, compared to 50 per cent thirty years ago .
