It is not unusual to hear our media (including social media) praising nurses, doctors, and other public health workers as heroes. They undoubtably are heroes -- working long hours and at a risk to themselves to take care of the rest of us during the Coronavirus crisis.
But there are others doing their part also. I'm talking about the cashiers, stockers, delivery people, truckers, warehouse workers, and many others. These people are not able to work at home, or isolate themselves in their homes. If they did, we wouldn't have the food, medicine and other essentials necessary.
These people are providing an essential service for us -- and many of them are doing it for a very low wage (and probably few benefits). And they are putting their own health (and possibly their lives) at risk. Too often, they are treated rudely by members of the public who were unable to get some item they wanted. That needs to stop.
These people are HEROES! The next time you have contact with these essential workers, take a moment to thank them for the valuable service they are providing. They deserve it.
They also deserve a livable wage (as do all Americans who work hard at a full-time job).
