Story: The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry starts when Harold (Broadbent) receives a letter from an old co-worker Queenie (Bassett). In the letter, Queenie is informing her closest friends that she is dying. However, Harold decides to write back, but not being convinced a letter is enough, he decides he will walk from Devon to Berwick. to save her.

As Harold continues his journey, it starts to see him gone for weeks. His wife Maureen (Wilton) starts to get worried about him. However, Harold convinces her he is ok, while he deals with his own memories of his son. His journey starts to grab attention and soon he finds himself becoming a viral celebrity.
