On Thursday, Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, tweeted his support for Avatars for Ukraine, a non-fungible token (NFT) project that directly assists Ukrainian humanitarian and defense operations.

The project consists of 70 digital artworks inspired by the Russia-Ukraine war, including Ukrainian iconography and resistance to Russian forces. All proceeds from digital art sales go to support Ukrainian fighting efforts. Avatars for Ukraine has been recognized by the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation, and the firm will issue its first NFT on May 19.

This isn’t the first time the Ukrainian government has employed blockchain technology to aid military operations. The Ukrainian government launched a website in April this year where people could buy and sell NFTs to assist Ukraine’s military operations, raising more than $100 million in crypto donations.

Avatars for Ukraine also continues a rising tradition of NFT projects that aid in the contribution of funds to charity, with a portion or all of the proceeds from the sale of NFT art going to a charitable organization.
