The perfect home is a four-bedroom, detached house in the country - with a power shower, walk-in wardrobe and utility room, a study has found.
It would also be in a peaceful area, away from the hustle and bustle of large towns and cities with the nearest pub and supermarket within walking distance, according to a study to mark the release of HOME out on Blu-ray and DVD today.
The nation's perfect home also has double-glazing, plenty of storage and a neatly mowed lawn with flowers.
It also emerged just over one in twenty Brits are currently living in a home they consider to be perfect, with another 56 per cent admitting they still love their house, even if it's not ideal.
The study of 2,000 respondents, commissioned to mark the release of HOME out on Blu-ray and DVD today, found the nation's ideal home would be in the south west and south east of the country. But more than one in ten said it would need to be abroad for them to view it as perfect.
It would also need to be within walking distance of local amenities, with the local pub no more than 1.2 miles away and a park or countryside just over a mile away. The nearest supermarket should be around a mile-and-a-half away, with a fish and chip shop and school no further than 1.3 miles away from the house.
A petrol station, nursery and library should also be within a two miles radius.
Researchers also found a power shower is the most wanted feature in the perfect home, followed by double-glazed windows, a walk-in wardrobe and a dishwasher. Lots of storage, well-insulated walls, a neatly manicured lawn, utility rooms and a big bath are other essentials for a perfect home.
Fixtures and fittings were found to be important with the perfect home including an American style double fridge freezer, a 52 inch TV, coffee machine and air conditioning. Rooms which feature in the ideal home include a conservatory, double garage, a wet room and a large converted attic.
Outside, the house should have a south-facing garden, large shed, patio and a vegetable and herb garden.
Under-floor heating, a balcony, a Jacuzzi and an AGA cooker also feature on the 'most wanted' list.
It also emerged that while the majority would like their home to be in a peaceful area away from the hustle and bustle, more than one in ten would like it to be somewhere with an active neighbourly community.
